Determining the optimal number of yard trucks in smaller container terminals

Abstract Background In 2017, smaller container ports handled approximately 22% of total containerized cargo. Nowadays liner operators are calling on those with larger ships and demanding fast efficient turnaround the in port. This is possible only if berth has right capacities, working properly achieves a good productivity level. Methodology Productivity level does not depend quay crane capacities but also transfer mechanisation, which main function to serve cranes one side yard other side. Choosing correct type number vehicles units from become very important decision every terminal. Results small terminals trucks represents most common mechanization. That why this research based allocation order assure better levels subsystems. For purpose, discrete-event simulation modelling approach used. The applied hypothetical terminal, includes operations berth-yard-berth relation.
